Ferric pyrophosphate is an orally effective anti-inflammatory agent and iron fortifier. Ferric pyrophosphate downregulates the expression of colonic pro-inflammatory cytokines, modulates the intestinal flora, and corrects the dysbiosis associated with iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Ferric pyrophosphate can be used in studies related to iron deficiency anemia[1]. In Vivo:Ferric pyrophosphate (FePP) (2-10 mg Fe/kg BW; p.o.; daily; 13 days) effectively alleviates iron deficiency anemia in suckling rats, restores body iron levels without organ accumulation, reduces colonic pro-inflammatory cytokine expression to normal levels, and reverses IDA-induced gut dysbiosis while promoting a more beneficial gut microbiota profile than FeSO4[1].
