Sodium Picosulfate (Sodium Picosulphate) is a contact irritant laxative with oral activity. Sodium Picosulfate inhibits the absorption of water and electrolytes, increasing their production. Sodium Picosulfate can be used in colonoscopy applications[1][2][3][4].
In Vitro:Sodium Picosulfate (400, 800, 1600 μg/mL) has different toxicity to rabbit, rat and human hepatocytes, and rat hepatocytes are the best tolerated[1].
In Vivo:Sodium Picosulfate (10 mg/kg, dissolved in 0.3% tragacanth in water, intragastric administration) has no significant effect on the proliferation of epithelial cells in the ileum and colon of rats[2].
Sodium Picosulfate (2.5, 10 mg/kg/day, dissolved in 0.5% tragacanth gum, intragastric administration) does not cause chronic changes in colon movement in rats[3].
